Trent Alexander-Arnold likely out of England squad after injury – Arne Slot

Arne Slot says it is unlikely Trent Alexander-Arnold will feature for England during the international break after being forced off early into Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Aston Villa.

The right-back appeared to signal that he had a problem with his hamstring and was immediately withdrawn on 25 minutes, with Conor Bradley coming on in his place.

Liverpool’s medical team will now assess him ahead of the international break, with Alexander-Arnold named in Lee Carsley’s squad for November’s Nations League fixtures against Greece and the Republic of Ireland.

“I would be surprised if we see him playing for the England national team this week,” Slot said.

Slot did not disclose the exact nature of the injury and said it was too soon to know how serious the set-back was.

“It’s always serious if a player goes off in the first half,” he added. “He asked for it himself and it was not because he was tired. He asked because he felt something. It’s not a good sign but it’s difficult to tell you exactly what it is when it is so close after the game.”

Alexander-Arnold has started every Premier League and Champions League game for Liverpool this season.

Liverpool moved five points clear at the top of the Premier League table after Saturday’s victory.

Slot’s side return to action against Southampton on November 24 following the international break, before facing Real Madrid in the Champions League three days later.
