HOUSTON — Golden State Warriors star wing Jimmy Butler will miss the rest of Game 2 in Houston with a pelvic contusion. His status moving forward in the series is unknown.
Butler was injured after being undercut in the air. While attempting to grab a rebound, the back of his legs were wiped out by a stumbling Amen Thompson. Butler crashed hard to the floor on his tailbone area, tried to briefly remain in the game but asked to leave when he couldn’t move properly.
A few minutes later, Butler gingerly walked from the X-ray room to the Warriors locker room, followed by his trainer, Armando Rivas, and his agent, Bernie Lee. Warriors general manager, Mike Dunleavy, was also with the group. Golden State ruled out Butler moments later, and he is expected to undergo an MRI on Thursday, a team source said.
While Butler was in the back, another starter, Brandin Podziemski, joined him. He had a stomach issue Wednesday, and the team ruled him questionable to return. Jonathan Kuminga and Pat Spencer entered the rotation in their places.
The Warriors have recently dealt with players suffering pelvic contusions after similar falls from Steph Curry and Kuminga. Curry missed two games, while Kuminga missed one before it became a pain management issue.
