Will Ferrell has transformed into a powerhouse watch collector right before our eyes. From classic Rolex pieces, affordable and obscure Timexes, and super-colorful pieces from smaller brands like Oris, the world’s most hilarious southpaw is a veteran horological diehard. Ferrell isn’t slowing down, either. Unsurprisingly, the funny man is into extremely fun watches, and he recently picked up another piece that is right in line with that collecting philosophy.
The new addition is Tudor’s Black Bay Chrono “Flamingo Blue.” Tudor launched this new BB back in January, and the watch’s turquoise dial instantly made waves among watch heads. Some purists decried its electric-blue hue, and others warmly embraced the playfulness that has been coursing throughout the Rolex-Tudor universe lately. See the pink version of the Chrono Tudor released in 2024. One thing isn’t up for debate, however: This watch is definitely the right pick for Ferrell, who looked positively delighted to strap it on as soon as he purchased it.
Ferrell got the piece from Feldmar Watch Company, one of Los Angeles’s most prominent jewelers. The boutique’s client adviser Lorel Monroy—who’s hooked Ferrell up with similarly colorful watches before—confirmed that he chose the watch because of its irrepressible dial. The comedian’s love for these types of watches has helped him accumulate what might be the most fun-loving collection in the world. What is admirable about his assortment is that he’s entirely agnostic when it comes to brand. He doesn’t discriminate between maker or price in his search to pick up vivacious dials. And what could be more delightful than a Tudor with a shade of blue inspired by, per the brand’s description, “The very tone of turquoise that is so distinctive of the tropical waters flamingos are known to love, and delivers the classic South Beach vibe.”
The best part is that Ferrell knows we’re paying attention and he’s eager to show off these watches: He frequently poses on red carpets with his right arm held up in the air, his watch proudly displayed for the cameras. (Somebody buy this man’s publicist dinner—you have no idea how much easier my job is made by this person’s instructions, which Ferrell has, of course, delightfully overplayed.)
The Black Bay is Tudor’s flagship model. In addition to a blue inspired by a flamingo’s preferred dwelling place, it’s also available in the aforementioned pink as well as navy blue, panda, reverse panda, gold and black panda, and black and gold reverse panda colorways. The Black Bay Chrono is one of the most capable chronographs in its price range ($5,450–$8,400). It measures 41mm in stainless steel (or steel and gold), features a large screw-down crown and chronograph pushers ensuring 200m of water resistance; a five-link 316L stainless steel bracelet; a fixed bezel with a tachymetric scale; a dual-register chronograph layout with 45-minute and 60-second sub-registers and a date window above 6 o’clock; and the Tudor Manufacture Calibre MT5813 with 70 hours of power reserve.
Reading that description, you get the impression of a watch that might’ve been issued to a military outfit. But in Flamingo Blue, on Ferrell’s wrist, it seems to have found its rightful modern place.
